When disaster strikes, will panic take the lead or will preparedness take charge?
This compelling question energized the audience as the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) marked the nationwide observance of National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) 2026 through a lively and interactive resilience trivia challenge that transformed learning into action.
Led by the DOST-PCAARRD Quick Response Team (QRT), under the leadership of Dr. Richard E. Amansec and Ms. Abegail Grace E. Pampolina, the activity brought employees together to test their knowledge, sharpen their disaster preparedness mindset, and appreciate the vital role each individual plays in building a resilient organization. Anchored on the 2026 theme, "NAGHAHANDA at KUMIKILOS Tungo sa PANATAG na BAGONG PILIPINAS," the activity reinforced that resilience begins long before disasters occur—through awareness, preparedness, and collective action.
As participants eagerly competed to answer each question, they also gained deeper insights into DOST-PCAARRD's science, technology, and innovation (STI)-driven initiatives that strengthen national resilience. The trivia highlighted the GALING-PCAARRD Kontra COVID-19 initiative, which demonstrated how research and innovation helped communities safeguard food security, sustain livelihoods, and strengthen self-reliance during the pandemic. It also featured the recently launched GALING-PCAARRD Kontra Krisis (GPKK) Program, which advances resilience through 63 projects nationwide focused on food security, climate adaptation, enterprise development, technology adoption, and community empowerment.
More than an engaging competition, the activity showcased how DOST-PCAARRD's programs and projects, strengthened by strategic partnerships, translate science and innovation into practical solutions that benefit communities. It emphasized that disaster resilience is achieved not only through emergency response but also through sustained collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the proactive application of research and technology.
The NDRM 2026 Trivia Challenge demonstrated DOST-PCAARRD's commitment to developing informed and prepared people, promoting a culture of resilience, and delivering meaningful institutional performance that creates lasting public value. Through active participation and shared learning, the Council transformed a simple commemoration into a meaningful opportunity to inspire action, reinforce preparedness, and reaffirm its commitment to building safer, stronger, and more resilient communities.
