Western Visayas Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESVAARRDEC)


Establishment and Membership
The Western Visayas Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESVAARRDEC) is an organization of 28 institutions and agencies that seeks to pool technical expertise and other resources related to research and development activities in Western Visayas. It is one of the 15 consortia under the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD).

It begun on May 4, 1988 as Western Visayas Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESVARRDEC) with 29 consortium member and partner member agencies which aimed to establish a unified regional research and development management group that plans, integrates, reviews and coordinates research programs of the various member institutions and agencies. Led by its base agency, West Visayas State University (WVSU), it sets to maximize the management of resources to advance research and development (R&D) programs relevant to regional and national goals.

On September 2015, the consortium was officially renamed to Western Visayas Agriculture Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESVAARRDEC) with the inclusion of aquatic sector. 

Currently, the Consortium is composed of Twelve (12)SUCs, Three (3) Private HEIs, Five (5) DA Offices, Three (3) DA-RDI, One (1) DENR-EMB, One (1) NEDA office, One (1) DOST Office and One (1) Intergovernmental Org. Twenty Four (24) of these agencies are R&D implementing while Three (3) are non-R&D implementing bodies.

Vision

A dynamic force for sustainable agriculture, aquatic and natural resources (AANR) sectors in Western Visayas.

Mission

Synergize and harness resources to generate and commercialize technologies to propel the development of agriculture, fishery and natural resources sectors in Western Visayas.

Goals

Contribute to national and regional development exclusively for science and technology promotion and a venue for joint planning, monitoring, evaluation and sharing resources.

Objectives

  • Implement strategic Research and Development Programs
  • Capacitate researchers on agriculture, aquatic and natural resources (AANR) sectors
  • Disseminate and utilize research outputs and;
  • Advocate Policy for advancement of agriculture, aquatic, forestry and natural resources sectors.
