The Central Luzon State University (CLSU)’s centennial anniversary held last 7-12 April gave focus to agriculture science and technology (S&T) with the S&T Forum held on 9 April at the Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija.

With the theme “100 years of leadership and excellent service in agricultural education and countryside development,” the Centennial included the S&T Forum, which highlights the role of S&T in addressing the country’s development concerns.

In his keynote message, PCARRD Executive Director, Dr. Patricio S. Faylon stressed, “the imperatives for development in the Philippines have become even stronger; we have a large and rapidly growing population to feed, a depleting natural resource base, and globalization imperatives to satisfy”

Faylon described PCARRD’s efforts in addressing these concerns through its four banner programs. Included in its Strategic R&D program on high-end sciences are biotechnology and other technologies and management systems that seek to boost agricultural productivity. It also involves managing the biodiversity, forestry, and agricultural resources.

Meanwhile, the PCARRD Techno Gabay Program for technology promotion has enhanced the economic status of its farmer and entrepreneur stakeholders in the countryside. It has also enhanced the partnership among PCARRD’s regional research and development (R&D) consortia, the local government units and the private sector.

Faylon thanked CLSU for its continuous support to the program and for providing constant leadership to the Central Luzon Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (CLARRDEC)

CLARRDEC, based in CLSU, has established in the region 40 Techno Pinoy Centers, the highest so far among the regional R&D consortia.

To effectively implement its programs, PCARRD also supports the regional R&D consortia operations and the capability building of R&D institutions and S&T human resources.
