  • The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) and the De La Salle University (DLSU) are spearheading a project.

    Titled as, Nanosensors for Rubber Quality Assessment, the project aims to develop a method that can potentially differentiate a cuplump formed using formic acid or acetic acid from a cuplump formed using sulfuric acid.

  • The Philippines’ strategic location and favorable soil and climatic conditions make the country suitable for planting cacao. The current estimate of cacao produced in the country is 12,000 metric tons (MT). According to the Philippine Cacao Road Map developed by the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Cocoa Foundation of the Philippines, Inc., it is projected that the Philippines has the potential to produce 100,000 MT by 2020.

  • Primarily used as animal feed, copra meal is an important feed resource in the Philippines. In 2014, the Philippines produced about 750,000 metric tons of copra meal as coconut by-product. About 60% of this was locally utilized mainly as animal feed.

    Like soybean meal, copra meal is technically classified as a plant-based protein feed ingredient and mainly used as source of protein and energy in mixed feed. Records from 2012 showed the Philippines has been importing about $500
